Administration


The University of Georgia Police Department Administrative Bureau is responsible for overseeing and managing the University of Georgia Police. The Administrative Bureau is comprised of the Chief of Police, the Deputy Chief of Field Operations, the Deputy Chief of Special Operations, and the Administrative Captain.
Communications


The University of Georgia Police Communications Unit serves the university community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The goal of our unit is to provide immediate emergency services related to police, fire, and medical calls for service. Other duties of the unit include emergency dispatch, National & Georgia Crime Information Center inquiries, telephone communications and access control systems.
Criminal Investigation




The University of Georgia Police Department Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is a full-scale detective bureau equipped to handle a wide variety of investigative tasks. CID personnel are responsible for following up on all crimes reported on the University of Georgia campus, as well as numerous administrative tasks.
Patrol



The uniform patrol division of the University of Georgia Police Department consists of highly trained men and women whose charge is to protect and serve the university community. Operating year-round and 24 hours per day, the patrol division is consistently striving for ways in which the university community can continue to be a safe and secure learning environment.

Computer Support



The Computer Support team maintains the network infrastructure, perform desktop support services, and assists officers in computer forensics.
Crime Prevention


Any good approach to community policing rests on the twin pillars of education and enforcement. The Crime Prevention Bureau endeavors to provide education that allows our audience to make the appropriate choices regarding their safety, their property, and the law.
Security Systems

The Security Systems Administrator oversees the daily operation of the Universities Andover Continuum access control and security system. These systems, including CCTV are remotely monitored from the Dispatch center of the Police Department.
Training



The training department oversees the field training program for new officers once they have completed the required academy to become a certified peace officer, and organizes in-service training and training outside the department for certified officers.
Teams
Special Units - Special Response Team



The University of Georgia Police Department maintains a well trained and equipped Special Response Team (SRT). The Special Response Team is used in the event of an incident requiring the use of specialized weapons, tactics, or training.
Special Units - Bomb Squad



The University of Georgia Police Bomb Disposal Team exists to provide the University and the surrounding community with safe, timely resolution of bomb threats, suspicious package concerns, and threats from actual hazardous devices.
Special Units - Crowd Control



This fully operational team specializes in crowd management, crowd dispersal, and the protection of life and property during incidents constituting civil unrest. If cause and emotion threaten UGA’s tranquil and historic community, the Crowd Control Team will be the first to respond to bring about and maintain order.
