The University of Georgia Police Department along with the campus access control committee and the University’s Physical Plant division are currently overseeing a project to unify and convert campus facilities to a uniform access control and alarm system. This project when complete will allow the campus community to move toward a true “one Card” system based on the existing UGA card services database. The software that has been chosen for this system is the Andover Continuum facilities management program.
The Continuum access control system is a state-of-the art technology that will support magnetic stripe and proximity codes. The University of Georgia Police Department has the ability to remotely monitor alarms on this system from our dispatch center. Each department will administer their system via the web client, and exercise complete autonomy in determining access into their respective areas.
Once installed the Continuum access control system allows the departmental administrator to schedule the locking and unlocking of exterior doors, assign after hours access via UGA cards, and monitor after hours access to the facility. These features eliminate the need for keys and the manual locking and unlocking of doors, thus saving time and the potential for lost or stolen keys.
The system manufacturer, Andover Controls, is a Massachusetts based corporation with offices in 350 locations around the globe. Tour Andover Controls designs, manufactures, and markets advanced microcomputer-based "intelligent building" control systems. Operational Security System, Inc. (OSS), an Atlanta based corporation, has been contracted to install the new system, as well as uploading associated software and coordinating requisite training for departmental administrators.
Facilities interested in converting their existing access control system to Continuum, or those interested in a new access control system should contact Shane Clayton Security System Administrator with the University of Georgia Police Department for more information.
