What is the escort service?
The escort service was created in October of 1989 as a means to provide safe transportation for students, faculty, and staff. The service was designed to pick-up and drop-off users at locations in parking lots, open university buildings, and on-campus and off-campus sorority and fraternity houses. The service is not intended to replace the University Bus Service, but rather to provide a special service where safety is the primary concern. The escort service utilizes two vans and is dispatched from the University Police Department. The dispatchers and drivers are employed by the University Police Department.

What are the areas of service?
The escort service will be restricted to the University of Georgia campus and Milledge Avenue. Pick-ups and drop-offs will not be made at the arches or any off-campus areas. The service will not be available to and from private residences or other off-campus locations.

Who can use the service?
The service will operate on an on-call basis. Students, faculty and staff who need this service should contact the UGA Police Department at 542-2000.

What are the hours of operation?
The escort service will operate on a semester basis beginning the first day of classes and ending on the last day of finals. The service will also be available on reading days during final exam periods. The escort service operates Sunday through Thursday evenings 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM and Friday evenings from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

How to Use the escort service
Dial 542-2000. When the dispatcher answers, be prepared to give the following information:

Due to the high demand for this service, we would please ask that the night bus service be your first option, if available.

The dispatcher will then momentarily place you on hold. DO NOT HANG UP. The dispatcher will relay your request and then advise you where to meet the escort van and approximate wait time.

For your safety, the UGA Police Department asks you to use the drop-off/pick-up points specified by the dispatcher. Below are some of the common points on campus.
