ATTEMPTED RAPE/AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
On January 18, 2013, an aggravated assault and attempted rape was reported to have occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. in the Botanical Garden complex off South Milledge Avenue. The preliminary information provided to responding officers is as follows. The victim reported that she was approached by an unknown male who put a knife to her throat and threatened to rape her and cause her bodily harm. After some dialogue with the perpetrator, the victim was able to flee to a safe location. The victim did not receive injuries during the incident. The perpetrator left the scene and is believed to still be in the South Milledge/Botanical Garden area. The perpetrator in this incident was described as a white male, approximately 6 feet in height, weighing approximately 150 pounds with short blonde hair, wearing blue sweatpants, a hooded green and white sweatshirt, white running shoes and black sunglasses. The knife was described as an orange pocket or utility knife.
University of Georgia and Athens-Clarke County Police Department personnel are currently in the area and actively searching for this individual. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident or was in the area in question this afternoon and may have seen this individual should call 911 or the UGA Police Department at 706-542-2200 immediately.
