Pedestrian Safety
Promoting pedestrian safety is a mission that the University of Georgia Police Department takes seriously. On any given school day there are over 44,000 students, employees and visitors on campus. This means that each day there are many opportunities for an accident to occur.
The UGA Police Department seeks to reduce the number of pedestrian related accidents on campus by:
1) Offering free programs to the community centered on pedestrian safety 2) Enforcing traffic laws 3) Providing safety tips that, when followed, can greatly reduce a pedestrian’s risk of being involved in a traffic accident.
Please help us achieve our goal of providing a safe environment for pedestrians by following these simple suggestions:
When walking:
- Use crosswalks and sidewalks!
- Obey traffic control devices!
- Stop! Look! Listen!
- Never dart or dash into traffic!
- After dark, wear brightly colored clothes to help you be seen!
When Driving:
- Slow down and observe pedestrians!
- Observe speed limits & reduce speed at intersections!
- Don’t load & unload passengers in restricted areas!
- Watch for bicycles and pedestrians!
- Use the proper turn signals!
